ECMO Advantage Specialist Staffing Options
ECMO Advantage offers several varieties of experienced ECMO Specialist Staffing Support.
ECMO Coordinator Support
New ECMO Programs may find the need to have an experienced ECMO Specialists provide detailed assistance with setting up their ECMO program. It is difficult to find experienced ECMO Specialists to serve as ECMO Coordinators for new programs. Our ECMO Advantage Specialist can mentor and assist your institutions appointed ECMO Coordinator through the program development processes. This can be done with both onsite consults, virtual meetings, and electronic communications depending on your institutions needs and wishes.
Retainer Option:
A designated period of time could be established for an ECMO Advantage Specialist to be “on retainer” to assist your program. During this time, a designated number of onsite days as well as designate number of hours would be determined and a Retainer Fee would be assigned. Generally that retainer fee would vary depending on the level of support and number of days on site required. This may also be set up as a smaller monthly retainer with associated additional daily fees for on site days to allow for more flexible usage of ECMO Advantage Specialists time and resources.
Daily or Hourly Fee Option:
ECMO Advantage can make Specialists available on a prn basis either for daily on site visits or for hourly work via virtual meetings, electronic communications, telephone discussions, and/or other off site work on related projects in coordination with your institution.

24/7 ECMO Advantage Specialist Support
ECMO Advantage can provide full 24/7 ECMO Specialists support allowing your patients the benefit of highly experienced ECMO Specialist care from day one. This level of support requires a retainer payment that allows ECMO Advantage to guarantee we have staff ready to respond to your ECMO Specialist staffing needs within 24-36 hours. Your institution would be trained and prepared to initiate ECMO and support the patient until our team arrived to provide ECMO Specialist support.
ECMO Specialist Precepting. ECMO Advantage can also provide precepting support for your newly trained ECMO Specialists. Once your team has been trained it will be important for them to gain experience supporting patients on ECMO. Our Specialists can sit at the bedside with your newly trained ECMO Specialists providing invaluable knowledge, expertise, and guidance to assure your first ECMO patients receive the absolute highest level of ECMO support.

Virtual ECMO Specialist Support
Virtual Medicine and monitoring is becoming more prevalent with newer and less expensive technology allowing for high quality audiovisual communication via the web.
We are initiating a new service called the "Virtual ECMO Specialist". Basically this allows us to provide up to 24/7 consulting services to you when a patient is on ECMO support. We set up a camera and 2-way communication system in the patient’s room and monitor from a secured remote location. If you are training new ECMO Specialists, then we can help provide experienced guidance while they are gaining clinical experience. Or if you are utilizing Perfusionists, Nurses, or Respiratory Therapists that are not experienced in ECMO support, we can assist in the minute to minute monitoring of the patient and provide that extra assurance that you aren't missing any important trends or warning signs that something isn't going the way we would expect it to. Initiating this service would require at least 8 hours of initial training for the bedside staff caring for the patient to orient them to the purpose and use of the monitoring service and equipment as well as basic emergent ECMO procedures. An initial one time set up fee of $15,000 will include delivery, set up, and training on all the audio-visual equipment as well as two 8 hour days to provide the basic ECMO and technical training for the bedside staff mentioned above. Then once you call us to initiate monitoring there would be an hourly fee for continual monitoring. The ECMO Advantage Virtual Specialist would be active in shift report, bedside physician rounds, hourly active communication with the care givers in the room, and impromptu communications to report alarming trends, suggested alterations in care, warnings related to something happening in the room, and of course any emergent events that may occur. In the case of emergency, the bedside caregivers will have been taught basic skills to isolate that patient from the circuit if deemed necessary and an in-house perfusionist/ECMO Specialist would be responsible for handling the emergency. In addition to continual monitoring, virtual meetings and/or educational sessions can be scheduled when you are not supporting an ECMO patient. General meetings, Educational sessions, (with a 4-hour minimum), and Participation in ECMO M&M and/or case reviews would be billed at an hourly rate.
